Oppose the record label-led performance tax on radio

Save Free, Local Radio

02 February 2010

American radio as we know it is in danger.

Right now in Washington, D.C. Congress is considering a bill which would institute an extra fee on songs played on the radio – a “performance tax.”

So what does this mean for local radio? It’s not good.

In the last year, with advertising sales sagging, radio stations have been forced to cut thousands of jobs. The burden of more taxes and fees certainly won’t help. The performance tax would siphon money and jobs out of our communities in order to line the pockets of big, overseas record companies. It just isn’t fair.

Luckily, you don’t have to stand pat. Join the campaign to save local radio today at NoPerformanceTax.org.
